Anti-Oppression Training

EDPP (formerly known as GDPP_ hosted the annual Anti-Oppression Workshop in collaboration with other SPPG student initiatives on November 17, 2017. This hands-on workshop provided an introduction to anti-oppression principles and how these principles relate to volunteer experiences and policy analysis. The skills developed through this workshop are integral to policy work, especially for those consulting with community groups, facilitating events, interviewing stakeholders and engaging with the larger public policy community. This training was a facilitated workshop by UofT's Equity Office and included interactive sessions.

Learning Goals Summary
  • Basic principles of anti-oppression and their application in a variety of settings: working with vulnerable populations, discussing public policy solutions and innovations
  • Importance of why having a diversity of voices and an anti-oppression lens are essential to policy work
  • Creating safe and welcoming spaces for guests at events and in interviews/meetings
  • develop a better understanding of respectful terminology and how language can be used in an oppressive way

The Treasury Board Secretariat of Ontario Accessibility and Inclusion Lead provided an exclusive training session to EDPP (formerly  GDPP ) Analysts on November 6, 2017. The workshop focused on how to create accessible materials (i.e. briefing docs, pdf, ppt, websites).
